Nirav Patel, 29, who was being held for allegedly robbing a bank at the Stop & Shop in Fairfield, was arrested by Westport Police on Monday, Aug. 26, for a crash that took place as he fled from the scene of the robbery, Westport Police said.

According to police, officers from the state police, Fairfield and Westport responded to the area of Saugatuck Avenue near I-95 on a report of a single-vehicle crash.

At the time, he was arrested by Fairfield officers for the robbery. Shortly after, Westport officials were granted a warrant for his arrest in connection with the crash.

On Monday, after posting $100,000 for the robbery, Westport police were waiting for him and arrested him on charges of evading responsibility and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Patel post $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
